Science Officer position at ICSU. The International Council for Science (ICSU) is seeking a Science Officer to assist with the planning and implementation of ICSU's initiatives. The post is located in Paris, France. Further details. Deadline: 16 August 2010.
2010 Kavli Prize Laureates in Neuroscience. Three US-based scientists - Thomas Südhof, of Stanford University School of Medicine, Richard Scheller, of the biotech company Genentech, and James Rothman, of Yale University - are the joint recipients of the Kavli neuroscience prize for their work to reveal the precise molecular basis of the transfer of signals between nerve cells in the brain. Ursula Gielen Book Award for one or more authors or editors of a recent book that makes the greatest contribution to psychology as an international discipline and profession or, more specifically, the degree to which the book adds to our understanding of global phenomena and problems from a psychological point of view. Nominations for the award are invited. Deadline: 1 October 2010.
Wilhelm Wundt - William James Award for exceptional contributions to trans-Atlantic Psychology. Nominations are invited for this award, which recognizes psychologists from Europe or North America who have made significant contributions to trans-Atlantic research collaboration. The award will be presented at the biennial Congress of the European Federation of Psychology Associations (EFPA) in Istanbul in July 2011. Deadline for nominations: 15 December 2010.
It is with great sadness that we report the death of Professor Dr Stefan Hormuth, President of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Stefan Hormuth, who died on 21st February, was a good friend of the Union’s international mission, most recently supporting the Union in gaining funding for a programme of workshops for capacity development in the Caucasus region. The leadership of IUPsyS has had the privilege of his advice and support on issues of Psychology's international representation and development, and will miss him as a friend and colleague. Past IUPsyS President elected to the post of Secrétaire Perpétuel of the Belgium Royal Academy of Sciences: Congratulations are due to Géry d'Ydewalle, Professor of Psychology at the University of Leuven and President of the Union from 1996 to 2000, who has been elected by a large majority of academicians to be Secrétaire Perpétuel at the Royal Academy of Sciences in Brussels. The position has a very high level of scientific and political influence in Belgium.
