The Japanese Psychological Association (7,298 members), the member society of IUPsyS, is the oldest nationwide professional association covering every field of psychology. Qualification for membership is expertise in psychology. Graduate students who are psychology majors are eligible for student membership. Each member belongs to at least one of the following five research divisions, that is:

  • sensory, perceptual, cognitive, physiological;
  • developmental, educational;
  • clinical, personality, criminal, correctional;
  • social, industrial, cultural;
  • methodological, theoretical, historical, general.

The Japanese Psychological Association Newsletter (semi-annually in Japanese) and two official journals, the Japanese Journal of Psychology (bimonthly in Japanese with English abstracts) and Japanese Psychological Research (quarterly in English) are published by the Japanese Psychological Association. There is an annual general convention.
