Membership in the Malta Union of Professional Psychologists can be at one of two levels: Professional Grade and Graduate Grade. Membership in the Union at Professional Grade level (N=46) is restricted to persons who hold such postgraduate qualifications as are required for chartered psychologist status by the British Psychological Society and/or the European Federation of Professional Psychologists Associations. There are at present thirty members at the Professional Grade level. Membership at Graduate Grade level is restricted to persons who hold an honors degree in psychology or equivalent qualifications. There are ten such members. Membership in the Union at student level is restricted to persons who are undergraduate students registered for a first-degree course in psychology. This is the largest section in the Union with forty-nine members.
Apart from its purely trade unionist objectives, the Malta Union of Professional Psychologists is actively striving to see that the psychological profession in Malta is properly regulated not only for the good of the profession itself but also, and perhaps more so, in the interests of clients. It also seeks to promote the advancement and diffusion of knowledge of psychology, pure and applied, and to promote research in psychological science.
