[From the web] One must be a licensed psychologist to qualify for membership in the Norsk Psykologforening (N=4,028). The general assembly in 2001 opened for membership for professors who are not licensed psychologists but are teaching future psychologists at our four universities. The professors can apply individually in membership to the board of the Association. They, can, however, only hold the membership as long as they are in the position mentioned above. The association is the only psychological organization in the country, organizing ninety-four percent of all Norwegian psychologists and being both a scientific organization and a trade union. Eighty percent of all psychologists in Norway are publicly employed. The organization negotiates wages for them. Also the association negotiates payments from the public health system. In addition, the Norsk Psykologforening runs extensive continuing education and specialization programs. Questions concerning the education, training, and licensing of psychologists licensed in Norway are among the central activities of the Norsk Psykologforening. The association also lobbies ministries and the national assembly. |
