Psychology Beyond Borders (PBB) is committed to international leadership in evidence-informed psychosocial preparedness, prevention and response to disasters, armed conflict and terrorism. As part of this broad mission, Psychology Beyond Borders is committed to enhancing understanding, policy and practice in four key areas:
- Preparedness: Encouraging global, national, community, family and individual preparedness for disasters, armed conflict and terrorism.
- Prevention: Designing programs, facilitating research and encouraging policy initiatives to enhance cross-cultural understanding, peace-building and nonviolent conflict resolution to enhance prevention of consequences of disasters, armed conflict and terrorism.
- Response: Encouraging the design and evaluation of the most effective approaches to coping with repeated and chronic exposure to disasters, armed conflict or terrorism.
- Resilience: Understanding the risk and resilience profile of potentially vulnerable communities and societies and developing effective means for building societal resilience in the face of disasters, armed conflict and terrorism.
For all of these areas, PBB aims to contribute to the minimizing of potential long-term psychosocial impacts of disasters, armed conflict and terrorism.
