The Federación de Psicólogos de Venezuela is a non-profit organization with professional, legal and economic functions: aimed to protect the morale and dignity of these professionals and their gremial and economic interests, to enhance solidarity and mutual help among its members, and to promote societal acknowledgment of a psychologist's inherent mission (Law of Psychological Practice).
The only national psychological organization in Venezuela, enacted by the Law of Psychological Practice, is the Federación de Psicólogos de Venezuela, which integrates the Colegios de Psicólogos corresponding to the different geopolitical divisions of the country. By May 1998, the Federación de Psicólogos de Venezuela aggregates twenty-one Colegios de Psicólogos, one for each geopolitical division. Both the Federación de Psicólogos de Venezuela and the Colegios de Psicólogos have an Assembly, an executive board, and a Disciplinary Tribunal, elected every two years by the secret and direct balloting of all members who are current in their dues payments. Psychologists are also organized into scientific societies that are autonomous organizations aimed to the support and promotion of applied fields of the discipline. The Federación de Psicólogos de Venezuela encourages and supports these societies, which are listed above.
