The Yemeni Psychological Association was established in 1990. The Association has the responsibility to promote psychology as a science, to stimulate research, training, and professional practices, to disseminate information, and to counteract abuse and misconduct in the field of psychology.

Membership of the Association is based entirely on academic and professional qualification in psychology. In 1990, the Yemeni Psychological Association published a journal entitled Mental Health and a newsletter entitled The Yemeni Psychologist Newsletter. The journal published articles in psychology, and the newsletter offered direct information to the public to increase their awareness of psychological issues. The publication of both, however, was stopped three years later due to a lack of funds.
