The XXIX International Congress of Psychology, under the auspices of the International Union of Psychological Science, was held July 20–25, 2008 in Berlin, Germany. It was organized under the leadership of Congress President Professor Peter A. Frensch. There were more than 9,300 registered delegates from 110 countries, giving approximately 90 Invited Addresses, 159 Invited Symposia, 12 IUPsyS Invited Symposia, 298 Symposia, 4,180 Poster presentations, and 4,400 Oral presentations. Michael Posner delivered the Paul B. Baltes Lecture, entitled "Executive attention: Its origins, development, and functions". The Closing Ceremony was held on the evening of July 25, in which the German organizers handed the hosting of the 2012 XXX International Congress of Psychology to the South African organizers.

Organization and committees

The Congress was organized by the German Federation of Psychological Associations under the auspices and sponsorship of the International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS). The German Federation of Psychological Associations are: German Psychological Society (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Psychologie) and the Association of German Professional Psychologists (Berufsverband deutscher Psychologinnen und Psychologen).
