Ethical Principles for Nordic Psychologists
The European Federation of Psychology Associations’ Metacode was approved at the General Assembly in 1995. The Nordic countries took the European Metacode as the basis for revising our common ethical principles during the period 1996-1998. The new principles were adopted in the respective countries during 1998 and 2000. Although the five Nordic countries have had common ethical principles since 1988, the way of using them have been slightly different between the countries. The numbers of complaints and sanctions also differed. During the last few years these differences have become greater. The Nordic Committee of Psychological Associations (SAK) decided to look into these differences and a task force was elected. The background for these differences and the development of the rules and procedures in the five countries will be presented. The question of whether the ethical code would be used for sanctions or education and reflections will be put into focus.
