The Nigerian Psychological Association has the following classifications and criteria for membership:

• Full Members – doctoral degree holders; experienced master's degree holders
• Fellows – distinguished full members,
• Honoured Fellows – non-psychologists (e.g., psychiatrists, educationists, etc., who have contributed to the development of psychology as a science and a profession in Nigeria,
• Graduate Members – those studying for master's and doctorate degrees,
• Student Members – undergraduate students of psychology,
• Associate Members – those in other related professions (e.g., social work, nursing, and personnel professionals, etc.) who are actively associated with the Nigerian Psychological Association,
• Affiliates – psychologists of other nations interested in becoming members of the Nigerian Psychological Association.
