Originally named the Tavistock Square Clinic for Functional Nervous Disorders, the clinic was one of the first outpatient clinics in Great Britain to provide psychoanalytic therapy for indigent clients. The founder and first director of the clinic was Hugh Crichton-Miller. The clinic is known for its work in psychosomatic medicine, social psychiatry, and child and family therapy.
