1929 - 9th International Congress of Psychology

The first International Congress of Psychology meeting to be held in the United States began in New Haven, Connecticut. This was the Ninth International Congress and the third attempt to hold the meeting in the United States. The opening address was delivered by noted psychologist James R. Angell, president of Yale University. Ivan P. Pavlov also addressed the Ninth International Congress of Psychology. His talk was delivered in Russian, but with such enthusiasm that the audience applauded portions before the translation was given. On one occasion, the applause turned out to be for a description of laboratory apparatus.
