1985 - The International Society for Psychophysics founded |
|
The International Society for Psychophysics was founded. The society was conceived during discussions among Birgitta Berglund, Ulf Berglund, Bertram Scharf, Martha Teghtsoonian, and Robert Teghtsoonian, during the early part of 1985. Its first annual conference was held October 21 and 22 at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in Marseille, France. The ISP traditionally meets on a date close to October 22, the date of Gustav Fechner's 1850 insight into the mathematical relation between sensory stimulation and psychological experience.
