On August 1, the first congress of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Regional Union of Psychological Societies formally opened in Jakarta, Indonesia. Indonesia's Minister of Public Welfare, Ir Aburizal Bakrie, addressed the gathering. Rahmat Ismail, President of the Indonesian Psychological Association, was elected the founding president of the organization.
