The first International Congress on Interpersonal Acceptance and Rejection was held in Istanbul, Turkey in 2006. The International Society for Interpersonal Acceptance and Rejection was established at the close of the meeting, with Ronald P. Rohner as the founding president. The Congress brought together participants from over 36 nations representing the disciplines of psychology, anthropology, marriage and family therapy, counseling, medicine, social work, and education.
