The International Positive Psychology Association was founded, with Ed Diener as its first president. The first IPPA World Congress was held in 2009 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. The association's journal, Applied Psychology: Health and Well-Being, was first published in 2008 in collaboration with the International Association of Applied Psychology.
