An international conference, "Towards Understanding Psychology: A Multi-Perspective Exploration of Psychology in the Sri Lankan Context", was held at the University of Peradeniya, near Kandy, Sri Lanka. Following the meeting, an organizing meeting for the first psychological association in Sri Lanka was held. Its first interim president was Piyanjali De Soyza, who was joined by an Executive Committee whose members included Udeni Appuhamilage, Marsha Cassiere-Daniel, Shamala Kumar and Suveendran Thirupathy.
