This study sought to identify the ability of children to cope with problems and how children can problem solve on their own. More specifically, how children incorporated their own resilience skills in coping difficulties. The children studied were of primary school age, from the Khartoum province. The study spanned seven months. Random samples included both male and female participants. The methodology used was a situational case study, with the goal of ascertaining how children could problem solve on their own with no interference.
The study found that many factors affect child resilience. For example, method of discipline, bonding and attachment (parental relation), socio-economic status, gender and culture.
Recommendations arising from the study are for parents to teach their children to resolve their own problems on their own without interference. They should only give assistance when they see it is needed, and parents should also try to give their children more selfconfidence by involving them in decision making, especially about issues concerning them directly |
