Copy To what degree are cognitive processes universal across cultures and to what degree to the manifestations of these cognitive processes represent different types of cognitive adaptations to the specific ecological demands and ecocultural patterns of cultures? Are there different mean levels in cognitive processes and intelligence across different cultures? These issues were investigated in a cross-cultural study of the WISC-III in 16 nations. A major finding was the remarkable cross-cultural similarity of the structure underlying the WISC-III, evidence of universal cognitive processes across cultures. The second major finding was that there are no major mean score differences on the WISC-III across the cultures. These findings have important implications for theories of intelligence and cognition.
