There is a lot of scientific research that has been conducted to find out what model of treatment is effective for people with substance abuse problems. The conclusion is that there is no single model that would do the job. However, there is a holistic, psychosocial model, which in reality is a collection of many models, proved to be effective in treating individuals with substance abuse. Addiction has multiple causes, thus we have to use multiple approaches, to treat people of the UAE as the use of medication is limited in this area. The psychosocial approach is a rehabilitation model. The intent is to bring people back to fully functional individuals in society. The program must be tailored to meet the individual needs of each patient.
The Holistic Psychosocial approach consists of the following components:
Relapse Prevention: Detoxification and Medication, Group Therapy, Individual Psychotherapy in which there are numerous methods of treatment in the individual model, some of which are: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing Rational Emotive Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Psychoanalysis, Gestalt therapy, Humanistic existential therapy, Psychodrama, Behavior Modification Treatment, Systematic Desensitization Treatment, Reality Therapy, Hypnotherapy, Imagery technique, Family Therapy, Exercise Therapy, Nutritional Treatment, Relaxation Treatment, Herbal treatment, Acupuncture Treatment, Yoga Therapy, Meditation Therapy, Art Therapy, Recreational Therapy, Music Therapy, Occupational therapy, Spiritual treatment, Educational Program (Didactic), Massage Therapy. |
