Prevalence of depression among health care providers in Iranshahr Healthcare Net Arbabi Sarjou Azizullah Depression is a common mental health problem which it will be second in line to I.H.D and lead to ill health, disability and mortality. Health care personnel are at risk for depression because they do not have social support and have stressful lives and duties. Depression influences how health care personnel feel, perceive, think, communicate and understand. Consequently without good mental health people are unable to fulfill their potential or play an active part in every day life. This research was carried out to assess the prevalence of depression in health care providers.
This is descriptive research. The sample size was 169 health care providers (physician, nurse, midwife, health professional) that they worked in Iranshahr health and cure net. The sampling technique was convenience. Data collected by questionnaire which it contained two parts: the first part (demographic data) and the second part (21-Beck questionnaire). After completing and collecting questionnaires, they analyzed by SPSS soft ware.
Findings showed that the age range was 18–54 years with 33.57 years mean and 41.4% female, 58.6% male. The sample contained 35 M.D.s, 64 nurses, 12 midwives and 58 health professionals.
The results revealed that about 36.7% suffered from different degree of depression (moderate and severe). 40.6% of nurses suffered from depression that 12.5% had moderate depression and 28.1% had severe depression. 31.4% of physicians suffered from depression that 58.8% of them had moderate depression and 20.6% had severe depression. Health care professionals (43.8%) suffered from depression that 10.5% had moderate depression and 33.3% had severe depression. There was significant relation between depression and age (r=0.16, p=0.04), experience (r=0.18, p=0.04), crisis history during past two weeks (t=2.96, p=0.004), job satisfaction (p=0.001). |
