Peace in peoples' mind: How? A study of psychological characteristics for the culture of peace Al Zubeir Bashir Taha and Abul Kassem Kor Hamed This paper focuses on the UNESCO hypothesis that says: "if wars start in peoples' minds, then we should build peace defenses in these minds." Obviously this quotation didn't only specify the mind as a war starter, and a violence source, but also and more importantly it went to the extent of limiting the mind in describing it as the war ending and the peace starter. This quotation seems like a linguistic fallacy. But what is most important in it is its focus on human minds, and this view has a point as the Azharyan said it. What is the human mind and how can we build peace inside it? Is it the brain or the reason in the philosophical sense? Certainly the UNESCO didn't make the effort to answer this question, and this quotation remained a famous, brilliant expression repeated with admiration by fans of peace culture.
This paper represents the answer to the question on both theoretical and practical levels. The obstacle in this research is the to discover practical psychological ways that can be used in replacing some motivation with other, such as replace hate with love, grudge with forgiveness, a behavior with another such as destruction with construction, and disorganization with social cohesion. All this, in order to replace war with peace and therefore substitute war culture with peace culture.
According to this paper, what characterizes wars is their reality and their pragmatism. Therefore peace would be spread if it becomes realistic and pragmatic. This paper suggests a psychological curriculum for peace culture that would start with education and would end in practice. In order to realize this, the research focuses on the behavior and mind characteristics for peace culture, by describing it as a cultural psychological organization that starts with the individual and is completed with the group. This process is called the psychological operation for peace building in human minds, and it's developed by social tools with cultural-psychological characterist |
