Copy Besides the clarity of the scientific concept of the deaf, our society still needs clarification to change its misconceptions of the deaf. Our society perceives deafness as the equivalent of a person suffering from mental deficiency, which affects how the deaf are treated in different social situations. This is what we sensed in our experience volunteering at the Adan association for rehabilitation of the deaf, during the beginning of the first trimester for deaf children at Kasidiyah School in Mansoma in 1999, where we succeeded in giving the deaf rights to be treated as any other normal speaking child. The deaf are still fighting to get these rights.

In our paper we will show the role of the psychologist in clarifying social understanding of the deaf in our Yemeni "Adan" society. We will examine the social understanding of the deaf in our Yemeni society and the role of the psychologist in modifying this understanding in the deaf's family environment, school environment among his peers and his teachers, and in his professional environment by reinforcing the self confidence of the deaf and by integrating skills within members of society in different social situations.
