Healing relationships in the face of terrorism: Primary research on techniques for achieving inward and outward peace after 9/11 and the trauma in the Middle East Judy Kuriansky There has been speculation about the impact of terrorism on relationships, but little research has been done. This paper presents what is known at this time about how terrorism affects personal relationships and intimacy, and gives preliminary results of one of the first assessments of this kind. It also presents the author's professional and personal reflections on healing techniques used in the aftermath of 9/l1 and incidents in the Middle East. These include "street therapy" and a unique mix of East and West techniques to achieve inner and outer peace. The presenter is a clinical psychologist and professor who has been working in the field of disaster mental health around the world for nearly 20 years, including after the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center and other places around the world. This innovative approach is practical and immediately applicable to clinical practice and workshops with a variety of clients in individual, interpersonal and spiritual quests or dilemmas. |
