Copy This symposium is held under the auspices if the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology (IACCP). IACCP was founded in the early 1970s to improve the cooperation between psychologists around the world who are interested in including cultural influences on human behavior in theory and research. IACCP currently holds over 600 members from some 70 countries, and will hold it 17th International Congress in Man (China) in 2004). The symposium assembles five presentations from long standing members of IACCP. The first presentation by I. Katcba (Turkey) addresses the role of cross-cultural psychology in the advancement of human development. The second presentation by L. Eckensberger (Germany) addresses the relationship between theory and praxis in the psychology of developing countries. K. Boehnke (Germany) gives and overview of good methodological practise in cross-cultural psychology and calls for the close of the rift between so called emic and etic approaches. The presentation by P. B. Smith (United Kingdom) gives an overview of recent organisational psychological studies of multinational businesses; he also addresses the question of possibly distinctive leadership roles in Arab countries. Finally, J. Georgas (Greece) presents evidence from a multi-country comparison of intelligence, using the WISC-III; he shows remarkable structural and mean equivalence across countries.
