Psychology as a formal tertiary discipline has been taught in universities and colleges in South East Asia for several decades. This paper considers the international face of psychology publications originating from six countries in South East Asia, namely Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia and Singapore. Output and content are reviewed, and the pattern and trends are interpreted. Implications are discussed, and the paper concludes with recommendations for international and regional psychology associations. Extrapolations are also drawn from the South East Asian experience in relation to the development of psychology research in other developing regions. |
