Copy When prior research has classified organizational culture into various types, typically three or four categories have been use, and this has been immensely helpful in enabling managers to identify and thus understand something about the cultures in which they work. Since in real life, however, organizational culture is far more varied than this, the current research used ranked data and the unfolding technique in order to develop a more comprehensive map of organizational culture than has previously been possible. The study involved over 300 managers who came from a wide range of organizations spanning the continents of Australia, Asia, Africa, Europe and North America. By means of the unfolding technique, 18 different types of organizational culture were identified. These were used to describe both those cultures in which the managed predominantly worked and those in which they preferred to work.
