The Croatian Parliament unanimously passed the Psychology Practice Act on 14th March 2003, proposed by the Committee for Work, Social Politics and Health of the Croatian Parliament, published in Narodne novine nr: 47/03 on 25th March 2003. This Act defines psychological practice (art. 2), the manner of conducting and organization of psychological practice, the structure of the Croatian Psychological Chamber and its duties (art. 26-31), the determination of membership fees (art. 35) and other matters. It is important to note that this Act is the effort of several groups of psychologists during the past few years.

The co-founders of the Chamber are the Croatian Psychological Society and the Ministry of Work and Social Services, who, on the basis of article 60 of the Psychology Practice Act, established the Croatian Psychological Chamber at the founding assembly on 15th October 2003.

Registration of the Chamber with the Trade court and the Institute for Statistics was completed in March, all psychologists in the Republic of Croatia were sent application forms for membership and the payment of fees as of 1st April 2005.

Following several changes of address, the offices of the Croatian Psychological Chamber are located at 20 Drniška street in Zagreb.

Psychological practice defined as:

  • psychological diagnostics
  • treatment and counseling
  • educational activities
  • professional research
  • psychological evaluation 

Psychologist defined as "person who has completed undergraduate studies intended for the education of psychologists"

Psychological practice may be conducted by psychologists with a basic or special certificate issued by the Croatian Psychological Chamber.

The basic certificate is issued following a professional examination.

Practice in clinical, health, corrective, forensic, military, educational, school, industrial, sport psychology, social welfare, occupational health requires special certificate that is awarded following specialized training.

Certificate are issued for 6 years and are renewable.
