Affiliated Membership in IUPsS

AFFILIATED ORGANIZATIONS

In addition to National Members, IUPsyS recognized affiliation status with psychology organizations as follows (excerpt from the IUPsyS Rules of Procedure)

Section III. Affiliation
Article 13. The following kinds of international organizations of scientific psychology may be >given the title of ‘Affiliated Organization’ by a vote of the Assembly:

  1. worldwide or regional international organizations whose members are individuals, and
  2. regional international organizations whose members are national associations. Each organization accepted as an Affiliated Organization shall be invited to send an observerwith no voting rights to meetings of the Assembly.

Procedures for Applying for Affiliated Organization status to the International Union of Psychological Science for psychological associations

  1. A formal application for affiliated organization status to the IUPsyS must be sent to the Secretary-General by the appropriate official of the organization. The letter requesting affiliated organization status should be accompanied by the following information in English:
    • A copy in English of the organization's constitution, statutes, and by-laws;
    • A list of current officers;
    • A brief statement describing the organization and providing its history and some of its main past and current activities.
  2. After ascertaining that the above information is complete, the Secretary-General sends the application and supporting documentation to the IUPsyS Executive Committee for review and approval. If recommended by the Executive Committee, the petition is then made available to the IUPsyS Assembly for review.
  3. The Secretary-General then distributes the petition and accompanying information to all voting members of the IUPsyS Assembly for approval, either (i) by a simple majority if at least half the members are present and voting or (ii) by a two-thirds majority of votes by a mail ballot, provided at least half the members vote.
  4. The Secretary-General notifies the organization of its affiliated organization status to the IUPsyS, and invites the organization to appoint a liaison to IUPsyS and to attend Assembly meetings.
