James Georgas Profile

James Georgas is Emeritus Professor the University of Athens. He has been President of the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology, President of the Hellenic Psychological Society, Honorary member of the Association of Greek Psychologists, Member of the Board of Directors of the International Association of Applied Psychology and of the International Union of Psychological Science, Professor Honorario of the Universidad del Salvador, Buenos Aires and Fellow of the National Academy of Psychology, India. Member of the Aristotle Prize Committee and the Wilhelm Wundt-William James Award Committee of the European Federation of Psychologists Associations, Partner for Greece of the EuroPsy Diploma in Psychology, Member of the Scholarship Committee of the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation. He was co-President of the 26th International Congress of Applied Psychology in 2006 in Athens, Greece.

His membership in international psychological associations is an indication of his long term interest in cross-cultural psychology. The underlying theme and methodology of his research and publications throughout his career have been the relationships between psychological phenomena and culture. He has over 130 publications: books, chapters in books, and articles in scientific journals and over 200 presentations at international and Greek conferences.

His book, Families across Cultures: A 30-nation psychological study. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press (2006) together with John Berry, Fons van de Vijver, Cigdem Kagistcibasi, & Ype Poortinga, was the recipient of the 2007 Ursula Gielen Global Psychology Book Award of the International Psychology Division 52 of the American Psychological Association.
