Nicky Hayes Profile

Nicky Hayes is a Chartered Psychologist and author of over 25 widely-translated books on psychology. She pursued an active research career until moving to the Highlands in 2003 when she left formal university employment and continued to be involved with professional psychology. During her academic career, she taught a range of psychology courses, and her academic specialism is in social representations and social identification: she is the co-author of a major theoretical text in this area with Wolfgang Wagner. She has written and presented extensively on psychology teaching, research methods, and general psychology, and was actively engaged with the British Psychological Society for several decades, obtaining her Fellowship in 1995, an Award in 1997, and the Presidency from 2022-2024. She currently edits the newsletter of the International Test Commission, and her consultancy projects involve applying psychology in commercial and organisational contexts. That is facilitated by her broad knowledge of psychology, developed and maintained over some 50 years through both teaching, and keeping textbooks and popular introductory books up to date. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, a PhD supervisor at Canterbury Christ ChurchUniversity UK, and a visiting Professor at the University of Suffolk, UK.
