As the list of Congresses shows, the International Congress of Psychology began to be held outside of Europe and North America in the 1960s, reflecting a commitment to recognise and encourage progress in psychological science worldwide.
Beginning in 1976, a chapter on psychology in each of the host countries of the International Congress of Psychology appeared early in the year of the Congress in the Annual Review of Psychology. Beginning in 1986, a chapter also appeared on each host country for the International Congress of Applied Psychology, sponsored by the International Association of Applied Psychology.
