At its Assembly in Florence on 22 and 24 July 2026, the International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS) adopted a major membership governance reform package, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening the Union. The overwhelming approval of all components of the membership reform marks a significant milestone in the continued modernisation of IUPsyS governance.
At the centre of the reform is a revised statutory framework governing membership rights, responsibilities, review and accountability. This is supported by a suite of complementary governance instruments, including the IUPsyS Code of Conduct for Member Organisations, the Code of Conduct Committee Terms of Reference, and the Membership Complaints Process.
Together, these measures establish a clear and coherent framework in which membership privileges are accompanied by defined responsibilities, and matters affecting membership are addressed through processes aligned with contemporary standards of good governance.
As IUPsyS celebrates 75 years since its founding in 1951 and more than 135 years of the International Congress of Psychology, this reform strengthens the governance foundations underpinning IUPsyS’s mission to advance psychological science for the benefit of humanity and its role as the Global Voice of Psychology, whilst reaffirming its commitment to exemplary international scientific governance.
