Allan B.I. Bernardo (PhD, Yale University) is Distinguished University Professor at De La Salle University (Philippines), where he also previously served as Vice President for Academics and Research.
His research program relates to four themes: (a) polyculturalism and intercultural relations, (b) hope and well-being, (c) socioeconomic and other social inequalities, and (d) sociocultural aspects of educational achievement. He has published nearly 300 journal articles, book chapters, and monographs.
He has served as President of the Asian Association of Social Psychology, President of the ASEAN Regional Union of Psychological Societies, Chairperson of the Philippine Social Science Council, and President of the Psychological Association of the Philippines. He was Editor of the Asian Journal of Social Psychology (2018-2020) and The Asia-Pacific Education Researcher (2001-2012).
He received the International Prize for Literacy Research (UNESCO Institute for Education), Spencer Fellowship (US National Academy of Education), and Fulbright Advanced Research Fellowship. In the Philippines, he was awarded the Achievement Award (National Research Council of the Philippines), Outstanding Psychologist (Psychological Association of the Philippines), Outstanding Professional Psychologist (Professional Regulations Commission), etc. He was elected Academician of the Philippines’ National Academy of Science and Technology and Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences for advancing science in developing countries.
